About Us

Cody Brewing Company

It all started back in 2005 when Sean Cody started BYOB Brewery in Danvers,
MA. BYOB was a BOP and home brew shop, a place where you could “brew your own
beer” (BYOB get it) as well as place you could buy home brew supplies. After a year in
2006 he started to make his own beers and began distributing them to bars, restaurants
and package stores as the name Cody Brewing Company. The very first round was
Codyʼs Original North Shore Amber Ale, Black Hole Stout and Witch Hollow White. After
awhile Cody Brewing became popular enough that having its own taproom bar made
sense, so at the end of 2007 Sean closed BYOB and opened the Cody Brewing
Alehouse in its place. The Alehouse gave Cody Brewing the chance to experiment with
different brews and broaden its offerings. Soon Chris “Gee Man” Gendron came
onboard as Asst. Brewer and with the help of Jen the bartender new tasty brews were
distributed to the masses. However in 2009 the hard decision was made to move the
brewery out of Danvers leaving the Alehouse behind along with the community that got
the brewery started.

In late 2009 Cody found the future home for the brewery in downtown Amesbury,
MA. Positioned right on the Powow River in Market Square, the old mill building was
the right place to re-establish Cody Brewing Company. Bringing back Gee Man and
adding Andy Donato for sales, Codyʼs brewery now concentrates on producing and
distributing its hand crafted ales and lagers to the local market.

Powow River

The Powow River is a 22.8 mile long river that runs through Massachusetts and
New Hampshire. It opens to the Merrimac River, part of the Gulf of Maine watershed.
Flowing through New Hampshire it reaches Lake Gardner in Amesbury and continues
through the center of town (past Cody Brewing Company) where it once provided power
for the early development of the town.

good!.......seriously, you should try it!)
